your tone is so humorous it puts a smile on my face. I was also not so sure of my own labor because everyone I knew said i wouldn’t be able to laugh or talk through the contractions if I were in real labor. Apparently I was in real labor while laughing and talking through it at home, because I arrived 8cm in. Didn’t feel transition period, didn’t feel the ring of fire.

I had a similar experience. The nurses kept telling me to stop pushing until the Dr. arrived, but I couldn’t help it, my body was just taking over. If I had to do it all over again, I would have tried unassisted birth, a new option that I recently read about in Laura Kaplan Shanley’s latest book, “Unassisted Childbirth.” Giving birth is really a natural thing, and with the right education and circumstances (such as what this book offers), I feel unassisted birth is the way to go- the secret is just getting past the fear.

I had no idea I was in labor either when it started! My husband had to convince me this was it!

You probably didn’t tear bc you didn’t have drugs so your body had control of what it’s supposed to do! That’s also why you felt so good and aware after the birth

I totally related to the arc of your contractions and I too had a postpartum hemmorrage. I wonder if the two are related. If I hadn’t been informed and had a doula present I wouldve been screaming for an epidural by the time I was 3 cm.

I’m currently 39wks 2days pregnant and am determined to have a natural un-medicated birth. I’ve spent a lot of time reading stories like yours for inspiration and until I read yours, I still was not sure if I had it in me to do it.
